Today was a memorable day.At 5:00 p.m. yesterday our IT department flipped the switch and our entire school went live on WiFi.
The waiting started.
Today at about 2:00 p.m. a student asked me what the password was for wifi. He had his own iPod Touch. We have a BYOD agreement in our district. As I walked him through the process for access, a small crowd gathered and I stepped back and just watched and listened.
"Oh, cool". "What, we have wifi?"
The expressions on their faces. Priceless. I was able to snap a photo of the first group of students on. It will go in our year book.
Now the fun and learning begins. I'd really like to know what kinds of experiences you had at your school once they flipped the switch. Hope you'll let me know in the comments.
Can't wait until tomorrow.

Sounds like lots of learning and collaboration are ahead! I remember when we first got WiFi instead of having to plug in our ethernet cords. It meant we weren't chained to the desks and were able to make any space and learning space. It was great to sit outside in the fall and spring and enjoy the weather and the wifi! Enjoy the new learning experience that will stem from this advancement!
Yayyyyyyy!!!!!!
Great to see some development regarding wifi.Tthe funniest thing when we went wifi in 2000 was that the teachers went home and couldn't print. They were so used to wifi they thought they could wifi at home nut with out the wifi system.
We had to purchase our own wifi cards for the clam shell laptops as the DEECD didn't provide wifi at that time. We could never go back although Ethernet can be better for movie files.
Enjoy the wifi!
@jenny To think you had wifi at the turn of the century. No wonder Oz is so ahead. Thank you for chiming in.
@royan Now we can start catching up to you!
@marcie That's what I have been thinking. We can perhaps reduce the number of computer lab bookings since the internet will be at our desk! Thanks..
