Download Google Apps

You may wish to download the various Google Apps directly to your Blackberry. This will place the Google icons directly on your Blackberry desktop to easily access all the Google Apps. You will need to sign up for a G-Mail Account here first if you do not already have one.

Using your Blackberry just click on this link and follow the screen instructions after you have signed up for a Google account.

Making a Call from Google Maps

So let's say you need directions to the Toronto General Hospital because you are meeting a doctor friend of yours after her shift ends on a Saturday. You are running late and you have never been to the hospital before. No worries, you have your Blackberry and the Google Maps App. installed.

Just search for T.G.H. on Google Maps, get driving directions and then click on the phone number in the location description and allow Google Maps to call using your Blackberry.

G-mail on the Blackberry

Another Google App. which is quite handy is G-mail. The G-mail
application is bundled with the Google Apps. download for Blackberry.
Set Up is easy and it has a pop mail retieval setting so you can get
your Sympatico or Cogeco e-mail too.

Google Apps - Google Talk!

About 20 minutes after receiving my new Blackberry, I had the full complement of Google Apps downloaded and ready to try.

My favourite so far has been Google Talk. To use google talk you will need to sign up for a Google G-mail account and have your friends and family and co-workers sign up too.

With Google Talk you can instant message without incurring Blackberry text message fees. Your Blackberry rings like the telephone when someone is trying to contact you. When you wake your Blackberry you can just start typing. It's that easy.

Next time I'll talk about Google Calendar and Google Sync.

Blackberry Mobile Blogging

Well here we are in January of 2008 turning a corner and using the Blackberry to help us navigate, communicate and just plain move to the next level in technology use for our SETs team.

It will be interesting to see how our new exchange server, our use of the Blackberries and all the amazing applications possible will change our way of working.

In my next post I'll explain how to use the first in a series of Google apps on your blackberry - Google Talk - - a great way to text messsage [I.M.] without incurring text fees.

Stay tuned.
